The child may only be admitted to a daycare center or daycare if proof of vaccination is provided. Parents must therefore ensure that their children are adequately protected before their child is admitted.
The following applies:
Children from the age of 1 up to their 2nd birthday require at least one vaccination. After that, two vaccinations are required by law for older children, adolescents and adults (this also corresponds to the general public vaccination recommendation).
Proof of protection against measles can be provided as follows:
- Presentation of an immunization document (e.g. the yellow vaccination card) of the child. According to the law, a correct record of a vaccination must contain the following information: date of vaccination, name and batch number of the vaccine, name of the disease against which the vaccination was given, name and address of the person responsible for administering the vaccination and confirmation in writing or in electronic form (with a qualified electronic signature or a qualified electronic seal) by the person responsible for administering the vaccination.
- Submission of a medical certificate confirming that the child has been immunized against measles, e.g. on the basis of a blood test or because the doctor has previously diagnosed the child with measles.
- Submission of a medical certificate stating a medical contraindication, why the child cannot be vaccinated against measles from a medical point of view and how long this applies.
The original of the relevant certificate is always required. The community facility must document this in text form.
If the child is to attend one of the above-mentioned community facilities for the first time from March 1, 2020, admission is not even possible without proof. For children who were previously in care there, a deadline of July 31, 2021 applies by which the proof must be provided. If this proof is not provided, the facility must report this to the health department of the city of Salzgitter. If a prior vaccination consultation with the parents was unsuccessful, this can order a ban on the child entering the facility.
Vaccination is also compulsory for school-age children. It is strongly recommended to have the necessary vaccinations carried out or to seek medical advice.
The new law also makes it easier to have yourself or your children vaccinated. From March 1, 2020, any doctor is authorized to carry out vaccinations. Specialists may also carry out vaccinations regardless of the limits of their specialist practice.
Please note:
The presentation of proof of the legally required vaccination consultation before initial admission to a children's community facility is still required and is not replaced by the Measles Protection Act.
