Pedestrians can only use this area to a limited extent during the construction work. Drivers must expect traffic restrictions on Neißestraße (30 km/h). From the north, pedestrian traffic will be diverted via Brucknerstraße.
The construction work on the Seeweg axis will be associated with restrictions for pedestrians and cyclists. For this reason, the Seeweg axis between Neißestraße, along the Wilhelm-Kunze-Ring daycare center and the city library will be expanded in three sections.
Work will begin on Neißestraße
After the work on the northern side of Neißestraße, the work will continue with a slight delay from around June 29, 2020 up to the Wilhelm-Kunze-Ring daycare center (probably until September 7).
Construction fences will be erected throughout the construction site area to secure the work. A construction sign will provide information about the project. In addition, graphics will be attached to the construction fences to show the detour options.
For safety reasons, pedestrians and cyclists are not allowed to enter the construction site area of the Seeweg axis from Neißestraße to the Wilhelm-Kunze-Ring daycare center during this work. The signposted detour route must be used.
The section of the Seeweg axis from Kattowitzer Straße in the direction of the city library / town hall to the Wilhelm-Kunze-Ring daycare center will remain accessible during the entire period. The passage to Goethestraße is also possible.
Finally, the third construction phase of the entire construction project is expected to follow from September 17 to December 3 from the Wilhelm-Kunze-Ring daycare center in the direction of the city library. Details (timetable and detour) will be announced in due course.
The work is dependent on the weather and is expected to last until December 2020. Construction management will be available during the work and will be on site regularly to answer questions about the work.
The City of Salzgitter asks for your understanding for the restrictions associated with the work.
Information on the sea route axis
The Seeweg axis is the pedestrian connection in the Seeviertel district between Salzgittersee, Kattowitzer Straße, Neißestraße and Albert-Schweitzer-Straße. In 2016, the first construction phase between Kattowitzer Straße and the Wilhelm-Kunze-Ring daycare center was expanded. Among other things, new benches were installed in the renovated section, improving the quality of stay and strengthening the connection between the city center and Salzgittersee.
The connecting path between Neißestraße, along the Wilhelm-Kunze-Ring daycare center to the city library has not yet been upgraded. This path is in a poor structural condition. The city council decided in 2019 that this area should also be upgraded. The corresponding contract was awarded.
The result will be multifunctional and high-quality open spaces in this section. The paths will be designed in accordance with the specifications of the urban development concept for the Seeviertel district and the framework plan adopted by the city council in December 2015. Suggestions and ideas from local residents have been incorporated, as have the various requirements and specifications of users and emergency services.
A total of around 550,000 euros has been earmarked for the entire construction project, including ancillary construction costs. The project is being refinanced with urban development funds from the federal and state governments.
