Digital surfing on Salzgittersee

Since Tuesday, May 26, free WLAN has been available to visitors to Salzgittersee in some areas of the lake.

A total of 14 access points have been installed to provide some of the most frequently visited areas of the lake area with mobile internet access. These include Reppner's Bay, the pirate playground and the public areas near the water ski facility. In addition, the parking area for mobile homes and the area used for competitions at the clubhouses are also covered.

It was possible to set up this service because the necessary cable routes and installation points could be provided at low cost during the construction of the new path lighting at the lake. The additional funding of around 70,000 euros was provided by the Salzgitter City Council, which has set up an innovation fund for digital services in Salzgitter. The new fiber optic network at the lake offers mobile Internet with a maximum bandwidth of 250 Mbit/s under the name "freeWIFISalzgitter".

All that is required for free use is agreement to the terms of use displayed. There are currently no significant restrictions on use. The utilization of the system is regularly analyzed and serves as a trend-setting indicator for the expansion of the digital offering in other areas of the city.
