Salzgitter

Innerste flood protection association formally founded

The founding negotiations for the establishment of the Innerste Flood Protection Association took place in the district hall of Hildesheim.

The Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Defence and Nature Conservation (NLWKN), which is responsible as the future supervisory authority, and the representatives of the participating districts of Hildesheim, Goslar and Wolfenbüttel as well as the cities of Hildesheim and Salzgitter have completed the formal founding act for the Innerste Flood Protection Association with the negotiation meeting.

The association's statutes will now be published in the Lower Saxony Ministerial Gazette in the near future. The association can then officially begin its work. The next formal step will then be the so-called constituent association meeting, at which the representatives delegated by the five association members will decide on the composition of the future association board, among other things.

The decision on which representatives the association members send to the association assembly is made by the respective district councils or city councils.

However, after the Kommunalwahl, these councils must first be reconstituted and then take up their work. Accordingly, the constituent association assembly will not take place until after the first regular district and council meetings, i.e. probably at the beginning of January next year.

Until then, the association will continue to be fully capable of acting via its predecessor organization, i.e. the previous flood cooperation of the five local authorities.
