Salzgitter

Mayor Klingebiel: "City centers are becoming more attractive"

In September 2021, the city was included in the "City Center Perspective" immediate action program by the state of Lower Saxony.

The 1.8 million euros for projects to revitalize the inner cities in Lebenstedt and Salzgitter-Bad have now been joined by 1.92 million euros from the federal funding programme.

The city of Salzgitter has successfully cleared the first hurdle for funding from the federal program "Sustainable inner cities and centers".

With seven projects and a funding volume of approx. 1.92 million euros, the city of Salzgitter took part in the federal funding program in an expression of interest procedure.

The city of Salzgitter has now received the news that all projects are to be included in the program.

The seven projects provide for various measures to increase attractiveness and range from redesigning the city centers to subletting unused properties at discounted rates in order to eliminate vacancies and the associated bleak appearance to developing an appealing marketing concept. The aim is to create incentives to visit the city centers again and fill them with life.

"With its successful participation in both programs, the city of Salzgitter has scored a major coup," says Mayor Frank Klingebiel. The targeted funding of almost 3.75 million euros will flow into various projects in the fields of trade and services, nature and climate protection, culture, leisure and tourism under the umbrella of "Future viability of city centers".

"The federal program perfectly complements the state funding," Frank Klingebiel is certain. "The federal program will enable us to develop a concept and a strategy for action for the sustainable development of our two city centers. One of the focal points will be citizen participation.

We all know that corona has greatly accelerated the transformation of our city centers. A large part of the retail and gastronomy sectors, but also the cultural sector, have been severely affected. With the help of both programs, we can develop new ideas in cooperation with those affected and interested citizens and make Salzgitter's centers fit for the future," says Klingebiel.
