Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel explains: "The first construction phase, i.e. the new building for a total of three kindergarten groups, will be completed in spring 2022. In the second construction phase, once the children have moved into the new building, the plan is to renovate the old building for primary use by the crèche children. As the city administration, we have submitted a draft resolution for this project, which will be discussed by the local council and the specialist committees in December and will be decided by the Salzgitter City Council on December 21. The entire project is an important milestone for good childcare in the south of our city. On completion of the overall project, 15 new crèche places and 27 new kindergarten places will be created there."
The costs for the conversion amount to 945,000 euros. The developer is the Evangelical Lutheran parish of St. Johannis, which will receive this amount as a subsidy to finance the construction project.
The aim of the fundamental renovation is to optimize the building for use primarily by crèche children. The existing rooms are to be restructured to create two bedrooms and a crèche group room. The staff rooms will also be adapted, the kitchen adapted to requirements and a storage area set up there. Current fire protection regulations and energy-saving building standards will also be implemented during the refurbishment.
In conclusion, the Lord Mayor emphasizes: "According to current plans, the renovation is expected to be completed in the second half of 2023. Together with the planned new building on Wiesenstraße in Salzgitter-Bad, we are thus steadily expanding the range of crèches and daycare facilities in the southern district."
