Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel commented: "It is a good and important signal that we have received from Braunschweig. Even if this school is only needed temporarily due to the temporary increase in the number of pupils, we have planned a modern, functional and visually appealing school that will be an attractive place of learning for our schoolchildren and offer them the best conditions for a successful primary school career."
State Commissioner Dr. Ulrike Witt adds: "The funding of the container school in Salzgitter Lebenstedt marks the end of a successful year of cooperation between the city and the Office for Regional State Development for integration in Salzgitter. More than 7.3 million euros in state funding for a total of 9 projects in 2021 is a remarkable result of this cooperation, but also shows that this support for the challenging integration work here in Salzgitter continues to be a major task."
The planned northern elementary school:
On June 21, 2021, the Salzgitter City Council decided to build a new four-form entry temporary elementary school at the Pestalozzi School site by the beginning of August 2022. A corresponding school building does not exist and must therefore be erected with prefabricated modules for the period of need, which can be dismantled again if there is no longer a need. Further details on the new school building were decided by the council at its meeting on September 29. The costs for the construction will be around 6.7 million. Around 85 percent of this will be covered by the integration fund. The remaining 750,000 euros will be covered by the city of Salzgitter from its own funds.
The 51 children who are currently being taught at the secondary school in Gebhardshagen will be taught at the new elementary school.
About the integration fund:
This year, a total of nine projects in Salzgitter received funding from the Integration Fund. These included projects such as street work, office work, integration work at the AWO and the SOS Mothers' Center, school social work and language support.
