What is planned in detail?
In order to create greater safety for cyclists at junctions, the cycle lane fords will be positioned closer to moving traffic. This will keep cyclists in the line of sight of motor vehicle drivers.
The new cycle lanes will be painted red in the area of the junction to make them easier to see.
For left-turning cycle traffic, indirect left turns will be used in the intersection area. Cyclists first cross the road crossing from the right and then position themselves on the marked area so that they cross the road from which they want to turn left with the crossing traffic flow.
The crossing area will also be made barrier-free during the work. To this end, the kerbs will be designed accordingly and tactile elements will be installed in the sidewalk area. The traffic lights will be adapted accordingly, as separate traffic light poles will be installed for cyclists turning left.
What is the schedule for the construction work?
- From Friday, October 1, work began at the Berliner Straße/Neißestraße junction. For the duration of the work, the permanently installed traffic lights will be taken out of service and replaced by a mobile traffic light system.
- Neißestraße will be narrowed from four to two lanes at the junction and traffic on Berliner Straße will be reduced to one lane.
- Neißestraße will be fully closed for around two weeks during the fall vacations. The detour route for Neißestraße will be signposted.
- Traffic on Berliner Straße will be regulated by traffic lights throughout the construction period.
- Obstructions are to be expected in the respective sections. Those familiar with the area should avoid the area.
- As the footpaths and cycle paths are being renewed, there will be obstructions in some sections. Pedestrians and cyclists will be routed separately. Cyclists must dismount in the construction site area.
- The work is expected to be completed in February 2022.
