Salzgitter

The city council has been constituted

The constituent meeting of the Council as the highest political governing body of the city of Salzgitter took place on Wednesday, November 3, at the Hotel am See in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt.

Right at the beginning, Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel swore in the council members and instructed them on their duties. The local parliament unanimously elected Wolfgang Bauer (SPD) as its new chairman, under the leadership of former president Günter Karl-Heinz Gehmert. Only at this point was the council fully capable of acting as a body.

The parliamentary parties and groups that had been formed were then announced and the rules of procedure for the council, the administrative committee, the council committees and the local councils were adopted.

An important item on the agenda of the constituent meeting was the formation of the Administrative Committee as a body of the City of Salzgitter. The council appointed the councillors Wolfgang Bauer (SPD), Stefan Klein (SPD), Michael Letter (SPD), Frank Miska (SPD), Thomas Huppertz (CDU), Andrea Kempe (CDU), Christian Striese (CDU), Sabine Thiele (CDU), Patricia Mair (AfD) and Marcel Bürger (Greens) from among the council members.

A total of ten seats, plus the seat of the Lord Mayor, were allocated to the Administrative Committee, as well as three basic mandates.

Furthermore, Stefan Klein (SPD) was unanimously elected as first mayor and Christian Striese (CDU) as second mayor in a festive ceremony. They are thus honorary representatives of the Lord Mayor.

The next item on the agenda was the formation and composition of the council committees and works committees as well as the allocation of committee chairs.

At the end of the meeting, the Council awarded the honorary title of "Honorary Councillor" to the retired Councillors Rolf Stratmann, Bernd Grabb, Wilfried Pollmann and Elke Streckfuß. The award ceremony will take place during a separate event.
