Salzgitter

Mayor Klingebiel: State supports important fire protection measures in Salzgitter with €650,000

Municipalities with particularly weak finances receive financial support in the area of fire protection

A decision that Frank Klingebiel, President of the Lower Saxony Association of Cities and Towns and Lord Mayor of the city of Salzgitter, very much welcomes.

"Financially weak municipalities urgently need support in investing in necessary infrastructure measures; investments in fire protection and emergency services are more necessary than ever, as the events of recent months have clearly and painfully demonstrated," said Klingebiel.

The city of Salzgitter was able to convince with its application for two necessary measures to maintain and expand the municipal firefighting structure and will receive € 650,000 from the Lower Saxony Needs Allocation Fund.

This needs-based allocation will be used to finance a large part of the acquisition costs for a swap body vehicle and a roll-off container. The total costs amount to just under € 844,000, with € 200,000 being financed from the municipal budget.

Technical data:

The swap body vehicle is equipped with a hook system, a loading crane, all-wheel drive and a cable winch. These requirements close the gap for the technical assistance concept, which is needed for particularly heavy and demanding assistance.

Another necessary addition is the new "Technical assistance - heavy" roll-off container to be procured. This will provide the equipment required to cope with the ever-increasing demands of emergency services and rescuing people.

The material to be procured can be used to deal with rail, truck and industrial accidents in a professional and future-proof manner. Storage in a roll container system enables the required equipment to be removed quickly and easily.

The industrial location of Salzgitter, especially with its five large plants, SZ-AG, MAN, VW, Alstom and Bosch, ensures an increased volume of heavy goods traffic, which results in an increased risk potential on road and rail.

However, the vehicle can also be used for severe weather operations such as floods, storms, etc.. For example, it can transport sandbags, unload them with the loading crane and, thanks to its high wading capacity, reach the scene of an emergency on flooded roads.
