This has now been approved. As a result, the previous support framework with the independent cities and districts of Braunschweig, Helmstedt, Wolfenbüttel and Wolfsburg has been expanded to include the district of Peine and the city of Salzgitter. In addition, the funding amount was increased 2.5-fold to € 250,000 per year. This means that further funds are available for nature conservation in the region.
Michael Tacke, Salzgitter city councillor, and Christian Mews, Peine district councillor, are delighted to now also be cooperation partners of the ÖNSA and look forward to a good working relationship.
The primary aim of the station's work is to better meet the challenges of regional nature conservation and to contribute to the protection and preservation of local biodiversity. In the district of Peine and the city of Salzgitter, for example, the activities in the field hamster protection, which have been tried and tested in the previous support framework, are being expanded and intensified. In addition, selected Natura 2000 areas are managed in close cooperation with the lower nature conservation authorities and measures are implemented to preserve the species and habitats there.
