Salzgitter

Expansion work completed - sea route is open

The expansion work on the lakeside path has been completed. The lakeside path can be used again. The important connecting path to Salzgittersee is now barrier-free and better lit. In March, three more benches will be installed, the cycle and footpath markings laid and trees and shrubs planted.

It took around three months to complete the work on the approximately three meter wide and 400 meter long path north of the Helios Clinic.

What's new?

The path was widened to four meters and newly asphalted. There will be a visible division for pedestrians and cyclists on this path.

The improved lighting of the path connection was achieved by installing new lights with LED technology. The 14 new lamps are regulated according to the time of day and season: The lamps are reduced to approximately 60 percent of their output from 9 pm to 6 am. From 6 a.m. and before 9 p.m., they light up at 100 percent (the duration depends on the time of year).

The barrier-free expansion of the Kattowitzer Strasse crossing marks the end of the expansion work.

What is still being done?

Two small gravel paths from Seeweg to the grounds of the clinic are being created in consultation with the people responsible at the Helios Clinic.

In order to prevent cars from driving on the Seeweg, the path will be secured with barrier posts directly on Kattowitzer Straße and at the end of the clinic grounds.

The paved benches will be installed in March. Three benches will be installed, each equipped with three armrests to make it easier for people with restricted mobility to stand up. The seat height of the benches is also slightly higher than usual. The benches are compatible with the other benches in Salzgitter and are maintained by the municipal public works department (SRB).

The markings on the asphalt for the visible subdivision of the path can only be made when temperatures are higher. There will be brief restrictions during this work.

The green area to the side of the path will be newly created following the civil engineering work. A meadow will be sown under the existing trees. In some areas, the green space will be enhanced by planting five trees and
20 flowering shrubs - partly around the seating areas.

The costs for the conversion of the lakeside path amount to around 350,000 euros. The project as an overall urban development measure "Seeviertel" is being refinanced with urban development funds from the federal and state governments.

With the expansion of the Seeweg, the area around the clinic and the retirement and nursing home is better connected to the Seeviertel and the district has been upgraded.
