He was delighted to say: "This is a very emotional project for me. I would like to thank the state of Lower Saxony, in particular Minister President Stephan Weil, for the clear financial support for this very important and urgently needed daycare project in Salzgitter-Thiede from the state's integration fund. This project serves in particular to meet the enormous demand for daycare places in Salzgitter and thus ensure social peace in the city. We would have liked to have started construction earlier, but the delays caused by the state budget regulations forced us to refrain from awarding a general contractor contract and instead put all current school and daycare center construction projects with state funding out to tender individually across Europe. Now the construction of this daycare center will finally begin. This daycare center will be followed by two further daycare center and two primary school construction projects in Salzgitter-Bad and Lichtenberg."
Present at the ground-breaking ceremony were the mayor of Nordost Christian Striese, city planning officer Michael Tacke, city councillor Dr. Dirk Härdrich, Dr. Oliver Fuchs from the Braunschweig Office for Regional State Development as the funding provider and representatives of the construction companies.
The plan is to build a 4-group daycare center for a total of 30 crèche children and 50 kindergarten children at the Brotweg site. The construction costs are around 6.20 million euros. The project is being supported by the Integration Fund of the state of Lower Saxony with funding of around 3.22 million euros. The daycare center is currently scheduled to open in spring 2025.
About the construction project:
The new building is planned as a single-storey, compact building. A large proportion of the existing trees can be preserved due to the arrangement of the planned building. The building can be accessed completely barrier-free from Brotweg via the centrally located entrance area. The barrier-free concept is also continued in the interior. From the central foyer, there is a short route to the respective crèche and kindergarten wings. The plan is to construct the single-storey building as a classic masonry structure, largely dispensing with reinforced concrete and a thermal insulation composite system in the wall construction. It is to be equipped with a controlled ventilation system with heat recovery. The existing roof area allows for extensive placement of photovoltaic modules due to the optimal north-south orientation of the property and the building.
