Press release for the SALZGITTER area of the Salzgitter / Peine / Wolfenbüttel police station dated 08.02.2023:
This is a prevention and media literacy project to provide children and young people with support and confidence in the digital world at eye level.
The special feature here is that committed pupils undergo further training so that they can then be available at their school as contact persons for fellow pupils. Supervised by external media professionals, they offer support in the event of problems and provide information about the dangers of the Internet
Volker Warnecke, head of the Salzgitter/ Peine/ Wolfenbüttel police station, and Dr. Dirk Härdrich, head of education for the city of Salzgitter, opened the event with a welcome address in front of an interested audience of representatives from almost all of Salzgitter's secondary schools.
Kerstin Behrens, Anastasya Selensky and Buket Özcan, teachers and school social workers at the Gottfried-Linke-Realschule, then presented their experiences of the project.
Media scouts have been working at Gottfried-Linke-Realschule as a pilot school in Salzgitter since October 2022. Eight pupils from the 8th and 9th grades there have already been trained and described their first experiences. After the scouts' engaging stories, the school principal, Niklas Nowacki, addressed the guests to share his perspective and at the same time to encourage support and the courage to participate among the school representatives present.
This project is supported by the local prevention council. The "Wir helfen Kindern" association made the project financially possible.
The AWO counseling center Salto on the topic of media addiction and the city library on the topic of fake news are actively involved in the project as external speakers.
