Ursula Wolff and Dr. Claudia Böhler from the Salzgitter city archives welcomed the numerous local history preservationists in attendance and gave an outlook on the planned activities and offers for local history preservation. Many thanks went to museum director Arne Homann, who gave the group a pointed and knowledgeable tour of the exhibition he curated entitled "A piece of heaven? Silesian cuisine in Salzgitter", which he curated.
Finally, the organizers from the city archive were able to surprise Heinz-Hermann Ahrens. He has been Ortsheimatpfleger for the Drütte district since 1990. Together with Hartmut Alder from Thiede (35 years), Norbert Zachries from Lesse (35 years), Sigrid Lux from Heerte (34 years) and Horst Helms from Beddingen (31 years), Heinz-Hermann Ahrens now belongs to the circle of those who have held the honorary office for at least 30 years.
Heinz-Hermann Ahrens received a gift in recognition of his decades of commitment to Ortsheimatpfleger, along with heartfelt thanks on behalf of the city of Salzgitter.
After the official part, there was plenty of time for the long-missed personal exchange over sausages and potato salad.
The Ortsheimatpfleger's four-year term of office ended on December 31, 2022. New certificates of appointment will be presented at the next Ortsheimatpfleger meeting planned for January.
