At 6.12 p.m., the bazooka was detonated smoothly by the explosive ordnance disposal service. The roads and the adjacent track were reopened at 18:33 after the successful detonation had been checked.

Simon Rebel, the head of operations of the Salzgitter professional fire department on site, commented on the operation: "Unfortunately, such or larger unexploded ordnance from the war is often found at construction sites. The operation was carried out professionally and I would like to thank all the emergency services on site for their good work."

It was an unexploded Panzerfaust 100 from the Second World War. It had an explosive charge of 1.6 kilograms.
