On this occasion, First Mayor Stefan Klein emphasized: "Today is a good day for our city. We are delighted that the construction, which is partly funded by the state, is now getting underway. My and our thanks go to everyone involved in the project."
The plan is to build an elementary school with four classes for around 400 pupils. The construction costs are around nine million euros for the building and around 1.3 million euros for the outdoor area.
Salzgitter's head of education, city councillor Dr. Dirk Härdrich, added: "We have seen a considerable increase in the number of pupils in Salzgitter in recent years. That's why we also need this elementary school, which will be a great place to learn once completed. If you take into account the other school and daycare projects that are currently underway, we are moving a lot in Salzgitter for a modern educational infrastructure."
The project is being funded by the Lower Saxony Integration Fund with around 5.95 million euros. Astrid Paus, Head of Department at the Braunschweig Regional Development Office, attended the ground-breaking ceremony on behalf of the state and said: "Salzgitter has a considerable need for daycare centers and schools. An important school construction project is being implemented here with the northern elementary school. I wish everyone involved every success."
About the construction project:
The elementary school is currently scheduled to open in the 2024/2025 school year. This will be made possible by modular construction. A general contractor (Gerlach Schlüsselfertigbau from Einbeck) has been commissioned. The general contractor is responsible for the entire implementation planning.
The new building will be constructed as a steel frame modular building in hybrid construction. The steel frames and ceilings are prefabricated in the manufacturing plant and assembled on site. The fit-out will be carried out in dry construction. The façade will have a thermal insulation composite system. The entire building will have underfloor heating and will be heated by an air-to-water heat pump. A PV system will be installed on part of the flat roof area. The canteen is approx. 175 square meters in size and offers space for 90 people. A serving kitchen and a scullery are attached. The outdoor facilities will be redesigned over an area of approx. 4,000 square meters.
