In the penultimate week of August, a basketball hoop, a table tennis table, a small climbing wall, a piano and an exhibition area will be set up in the middle of the town center. There will also be a new stage on Klesmerplatz.
To publicize the temporary offer, an opening event will take place on August 23, supported by various institutions. Starting at 3 p.m., SV Union Salzgitter will present what it looks like when real experts get to work on the sports equipment on the market square. The footballers will start at 3 p.m. with a "panna arena" set up just for this afternoon, where anyone who wants to can compete in a one-on-one match. The basketball players will join in at 3:30 pm and the table tennis players at 4:00 pm. After a short presentation by the SV Union Salzgitter professionals, visitors of all ages will be able to try out the sports equipment under the guidance of the coaches.
The stage on Klesmerplatz will be used from 4:30 pm by the musicians and artists of the Circus and Musical School Heimat Salzgitter under the direction of Michael Rolke. Gymnastic artists who have traveled from Africa will then perform their spectacular tricks. A few meters further on, Stefan Bolte and his students from the Salzgitter Music School will be giving a taste of their piano skills from 17:00. And in the direction of Schützenplatz, an exhibition will show how pupils from an eighth-grade class at Salzgitter-Bad grammar school imagine the future of the city center.
Afterwards, the modules will provide an additional leisure offer in the city center for six weeks, which can be used free of charge by all visitors. The stage will also be freely available to all artists and musicians on an open-mic basis (subject to rest periods). There are only scheduled performances on Saturdays at market time, when artists invited by Wirtschafts- und Innovationsförderung Salzgitter GmbH (WIS) perform at 11:00 am. Interested artists are welcome to contact WIS if they have any questions.
Jan Erik Bohling, Head of Economic Affairs and Managing Director of WIS, is delighted with the project: "Even after the opening, the modules offer great added value for the people of Salzgitter. We very much hope that many people will take advantage of the opportunity to play basketball or table tennis with friends, listen to musicians or even make music themselves. The retail trade and restaurants will also benefit from this revitalization."
The project is one of the measures being implemented jointly by the city administration and WIS as part of the "Future-proof inner cities and centers" funding program of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction.
