Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel is pleased to say: "The school and cultural workers in Salzgitter will finally have a contemporary, functional and modern venue at their disposal again, which is also impressive in terms of size, equipment, sound and lighting systems and technical equipment in an inter-communal comparison."
And progress is also being made in the south of the city: Klingebiel will present the project resolution for the complete refurbishment of the Salzgitter-Bad grammar school auditorium to the Salzgitter City Council for a decision at the meeting on 22 May and explains: "The refurbishment of the auditorium of the grammar school in Salzgitter-Bad is now to be started as a second step with a comparably good standard as a further flagship project. However, work on this auditorium will only begin after the Fredenberg secondary school auditorium has been completed and opened in 2025. After a necessary renovation break, the Salzgitter-Bad secondary school auditorium will be reopened as a venue from 2027 and will then shine in a new and fresh design in addition to the structural renovation. For several decades, our assembly halls at our Salzgitter-Bad and Salzgitter-Fredenberg grammar schools have been outstanding cultural venues in addition to school facilities. The auditoriums provide an ideal stage for regional theater, concert, comedy, musical and rock events in particular. Among other things, they are the venue for the Kulturkreis Salzgitter e.V. and an event space for the two grammar schools. They are also used for social events."
Head of Building Michael Tacke adds: "A Europe-wide tendering procedure has already been carried out to award the planning and engineering services required for the refurbishment of the auditorium at Salzgitter-Bad secondary school. The tender for the planning services was intended to be awarded in stages. Now the further planning services for the design and implementation planning as well as the preparation and implementation of the awarding of the contract together with construction and site supervision will be awarded. The dbd office from Salzgitter-Thiede will be commissioned accordingly for the building planning and structural design."
A complete refurbishment of the existing building is planned. Structural extensions mainly relate to the creation of barrier-free accessibility and the accommodation of the extensive, necessary technical building equipment and, in particular, the ventilation technology. No other spatial expansion is planned.
Klingebiel adds in conclusion: "During the refurbishment, the requirements of the Building Energy Act and all other legal regulations will be taken into account and complied with. It will therefore be necessary to dismantle the building down to its shell state and then completely rebuild it. Design concepts for the façade and interior will be developed in the further planning process. The cost estimate for the project is approximately €9,200,000.00. A sum of € 8,300,000.00 is currently set aside in the 2023/2024 business plan of the building management, purchasing and logistics company. I will also include the difference for the 2026/2027 financial years in my draft of the 2025/2026 municipal double budget."
The additional costs are the result of the latest general construction price increases. As part of the project update, a more detailed cost calculation will be carried out in accordance with DIN 276.
