In his welcoming address, Striese said: "You carol singers have made an important decision: Namely, that you do good for other children by caroling. I think that's great!"

Romanus Kohl, senior pastor of Salzgitter and dean of the Goslar-Salzgitter deanery, who was also present at the carol singers' reception, added: "Your great commitment is a sign of your solidarity with the children of this world. My and our heartfelt thanks for this and for bringing joy to people's homes with your singing and blessings."

The carol singing in Salzgitter is organized every year by the four Catholic parishes of St. Bernward (Thiede), St. Joseph (Lebenstedt), St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe (Fredenberg) and St. Marien (Bad).

The motto of the 2024 carol singing campaign is "Together for our planet - in Amazonia and worldwide". The money raised by the carol singers will be used to support around 1,200 projects worldwide. This year, the campaign is focusing on preserving creation and treating people and nature with respect.
