Salzgitter

VHS study trip: Sri Lanka - Pearl of the Indian Ocean

The popular study trips organized by the Volkshochschule (VHS) of the city of Salzgitter will continue next year. After Georgia and Armenia, Jordan and Cuba, Sri Lanka will be visited from March 14 to 24, 2025.

Sigiriya (Lion Rock) in Sri Lanka

The "Pearl of the Indian Ocean", as the island is known, promises days filled with diverse impressions of culture, fauna and flora.

After years of turmoil, Sri Lanka has once again stabilized politically and is also experiencing an economic upturn, not least thanks to tourism. The highlights of the study tour program include visits to pineapple, cinnamon and other spice plantations; the rock temple of Sirigiya; a climb to Little Adam's Peak; a ride on a panoramic train through the tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya and a safari in the Udalaware National Park with its famous elephants. The trip also includes a visit to a village school, an organic farm, talks about food projects and women's issues.

The price of the trip is 2,299 euros per person (single supplement 399 euros). It includes flights, the round trip in an air-conditioned coach, half board, all excursions and entrance fees. The minimum number of participants is 15. Bookings can be made immediately at the VHS offices or with tour guide Norbert Uhde (phone 05371/7502702).
