The Environment Department of the City of Salzgitter is looking for people who are committed to wasp and hornet protection. Anyone interested in a two-day training course to become a wasp and hornet advisor next year can register now.

Wasps and hornets are useful, important for nature and mostly harmless to humans. Many citizens contact us, especially in summer, when the insects are out and about in large numbers or have built their nests in unfavorable places in the house or garden. Wasp and hornet advisors can help with these or similar problems. They give advice over the phone, provide information or visit the situation in person to help citizens.

How can I get support? Anyone interested in this voluntary work will receive the relevant knowledge about advice, resettlement and help in a two-day free training course in 2026 and will be able to assess situations correctly. If relocation is necessary, this will be charged to the person concerned. The Environment team is available as a point of contact.

Important: The equipment (gloves, face coverings, etc.) is provided free of charge.

What is required? Anyone interested in this important task relating to wasp and hornet protection should not be afraid of these insects and should be able to deal well with people in order to help them with their "wasp or hornet problem".

Information:

If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact the Environment Department (without obligation):

Janina Paul (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.), phone: 05341/ 839-3206; email: janina.paulstadt.salzgitterde

The two-day training course will take place in 2026 and will be paid for by the city of Salzgitter. The equipment will be provided.

This training will provide knowledge about hornet and wasp species in order to be able to use this information to answer questions such as: Help, I have a wasp nest! What should I do now? Or: What should I do if there are lots of wasps in my garden?

After the training, the volunteer experts can provide information, answer questions and give advice on the phone and on site if necessary.
