The main trades have been completed. The finishing work is currently underway. Flooring is being laid and painting work is being carried out. The final installation for the sanitary and electrical work as well as the installation of the auditorium seating is scheduled for April/May 2025.

The City Council of Salzgitter has approved the "Complete refurbishment of the SZ-Fredenberg auditorium" project. Essentially, structural and functional conditions are to be improved. The assembly hall is primarily a meeting place. It is also used by the public for various extracurricular events. This was taken into account in the design for the refurbishment in several aspects.

The outer shell of the building, i.e. the façade, the roof, the glass façade in the entrance area and the windows were renovated to make them more energy-efficient. The design idea is for the newly planned façade to retain the basic character of the building.

The existing building is very compact and clearly structured. Thanks to the new, all-round façade, the building does not break up into different parts. The façade consists of a metal substructure covered with a fabric. This gives it a light and translucent appearance. The tilted elements of the façade emphasize this light character.

In the front area (west view), the building is supplemented by a single-storey extension. This includes an extension to the foyer, a new main entrance, an addition to the publicly accessible sanitary facilities and some ancillary rooms. The usability of the foyer was designed to be as flexible as possible.

As part of the renovation work, the auditorium will have a new delivery area at the rear. A lifting platform will be installed here for the delivery of technical equipment and stage sets for the various events.

The overall refurbishment concept includes barrier-free use of all publicly accessible areas (foyer, auditorium, sanitary facilities for visitors).

The focus of the design was on bringing the materials used at the time, such as the exposed concrete columns and the clinker brick in the foyer, into a new context and thus giving the overall appearance a new design.
