The person submitting the application must register with the BundID and can then complete each required form online and upload any supporting documents.

Parents, spouses or life partners can also complete the forms online for the respective application in a separate area; access is via a link that the applicant can send by email.

The advantages are maximum security in terms of identity verification, digital application and communication with the BAföG office.

At the start of the school year, a processing time of around 6 to 8 weeks can be expected due to the peak application phase. The submission of complete documents is essential. A total of around 300 applications are submitted each year.

Is it still possible to submit paper applications? Yes, applications can still be submitted in paper form. However, with regard to the so-called e-file, an electronic application is always more advantageous for both sides. Submitting digitally completed forms by e-mail is also advantageous, as the applicant receives confirmation of receipt by e-mail and the documents are also easier to read.
