City planning officer Michael Tacke explains: "We are carrying out numerous construction and renovation projects on buildings. These include both ongoing projects, such as the complete refurbishment of the Fredenberg assembly hall, as well as self-contained measures. These include necessary work on buildings and outdoor facilities, as well as the construction of new buildings and parts of buildings. Various smaller and larger measures will be implemented at schools, daycare centers and administrative buildings throughout the city during the summer. These include preventative fire protection, energy-efficient renovations, acoustic improvements and room refurbishments. Typical work that is also carried out during the summer vacations is the replacement of lighting or the maintenance and repair of heating and ventilation systems. The cost of the measures carried out on buildings and outdoor facilities during the summer vacation is around 2.35 million euros."
Here are some examples of measures that will be implemented during the summer vacation:
- Dr. Klaus Schmidt Hauptschule Salzgitter-Bad: renovation of WC facilities for teachers
- Flachstöckheim primary and secondary school sports hall: refurbishment of the ceiling and replacement of all ceiling lighting
- Am Ostertal Salzgitter-Lebenstedt elementary school: installation of a new play structure and replacement of fall protection sand
- Ringelheim elementary school old building: energy-efficient refurbishment - replacement of door and window elements
- Steterburg elementary school: flooring work in the corridors
Larger construction measures that are currently being started or continued during the summer include
- Fredenberg assembly hall: complete refurbishment, interior work and outdoor facilities
- Lichtenberg elementary school: new building
- Salzgitter-Bad secondary school: 1st construction phase renovation of the sports facilities
- Fredenberg High School Tower 0: Complete refurbishment and canteen - start of demolition work on the interior
- Gebhardshagen secondary school: complete refurbishment - 2nd and 3rd construction phase roof refurbishment
Regarding the road construction measures, the city planning officer continues: "Three road construction measures are currently being implemented or are about to start: the renewal of Hasenspringweg in Salzgitter-Bad (1st construction phase), the expansion of Engeroder Straße, also in Salzgitter-Bad, and the final expansion of the Michael-Ende-Ring in Gebhardshagen. Together, these road construction measures cost just under 2.1 million euros. Added to this is the renovation of the pylon bridge to Salzgittersee, which will run until the end of July, as well as our major project - the demolition and new construction of the Industriestraße Mitte bridge in the direction of Lebenstedt at a cost of around 11 million euros. At the same time, we are continuing to implement our bus stop renewal program. From July to September, eight bus stops in Thiede, Lebenstedt and Salder will be modernized.
