Salzgitter

"Thank you" evening for the Neuwerk volunteers

50 volunteers accepted the invitation from the city of Salzgitter to a "thank you" evening at the Forellenhof Youth Culture Workshop (JKW). The volunteers at Neuwerk are involved in areas such as cooking/housekeeping, construction/maintenance and supervising the city's vacation camps.

The Neuwerk volunteers were the focus of the "thank you evening".

Stefan Klein, First Mayor of the city of Salzgitter, conveyed the greetings and thanks of Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel and the city council. He thanked the volunteers for their special commitment to the education and youth camp. For this reason, the Salzgitter City Council approved the extension of the lease for a further ten years at its meeting on October 1, 2025.

Councillor Dr. Dirk Härdrich welcomed all the guests and thanked the employees and especially the volunteers. He reported on the visit by the youth welfare committee and emphasized how important the camp is for children and young people from Salzgitter, despite the changes in their living environments (e.g. smartphones). The young people experience a special togetherness through their various joint activities.

Marco Schmitz, Head of the Children, Youth and Family Department, and Bernadeta Kocot-Miczka, Head of the Youth and Democracy Education Team in the Municipal Child and Youth Development Department, also thanked the volunteers and employees of the city of Salzgitter for their commitment.

Dr. Roswitha Krum, the first chairwoman of the Neuwerk Youth Camp Development Association, joined in thanking the volunteers. She then presented the work and past activities of the Neuwerk Youth and Education Camp Support Association.

At the "thank you meeting", those responsible provided information about the expanded leisure activities with new acquisitions such as an escape room in the box, which playfully combines creativity, logical thinking and teamwork.

The volunteers also took photos that evening to create a collage for the camp.

The wheel of fortune competition went down well with everyone: Questions about the island of Neuwerk had to be answered in this interactive game. It is not revealed who knew the island particularly well or less well....

Instead, the dates for the 2026 Neuwerk vacation camps have already been announced:
