New and repaired digital displays at bus stops are tested

What began successfully in Braunschweig in 2020 is to be rolled out in the region this year, according to the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association.

The so-called dynamic passenger information displays, DFI for short, are to display the departure time of the next bus at the bus stop in real time in more municipalities from the summer.

To this end, new and repaired devices will be put through their paces at ten locations in three municipalities over the next few weeks. If they display the journey times correctly around the clock without any complications, around 220 DFI displays will be installed in the region by the end of the year.

The real-time project, which is funded by the state, was launched by the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association together with numerous local authorities and transport companies in the region. One part of the project is the DFI, which shows passengers the departure of the next bus in real time at around 460 bus stops.

The project consists of two parts. The first part covers the areas of Braunschweig and Cremlingen, where more than 240 DFIs have been reliably displaying departures since the end of 2022. Another manufacturer was responsible for the second part of the project, whose devices were defective and had to be dismantled.

A new manufacturer was found through an EU-wide tender and will supply new devices. Many of the existing devices can be repaired and will be given a new technical interior, which is particularly positive for reasons of sustainability. Visually, the displays will have the same appearance as in Braunschweig.

In Salzgitter, the display will be tested on Bruchmachtersenstraße.
