The newly built daycare center will start operating during the third quarter. Pre-bookings are now possible via the Salzgitter parents' portal. The 4-group facility is designed for a total of 30 crèche children (two groups) and 50 kindergarten children (also two groups).
The costs for the new building amount to around 6.45 million euros.
"The new nursery in Thiede is urgently needed by families in Salzgitter. With the new building, the city is responding to the growing demands that have also arisen due to the influx of refugee families. The state is therefore supporting the construction with around 3.2 million euros via the integration fund. The Brotweg daycare centre is a visible sign of the future of the district and of the togetherness that characterizes Salzgitter," says Dr. Oliver Fuchs, Braunschweig Regional Development Office.
Mayor Frank Klingebiel added: "Today is a good day for Salzgitter-Thiede, for the north-east district and for our entire city of Salzgitter. Everyone involved has pulled together to realize the Brotweg daycare project as quickly as possible. For a long time now, daycare centers have no longer just been places of care, but early education facilities that children and employees should enjoy attending. Our youngest children not only make their first friends with children of all nationalities in an uncomplicated way, but also learn knowledge, values and social behavior in a playful way from competent and empathetic teachers. This is where the foundations for the future of our children are laid in the truest sense of the word. In this respect, I am proud that we in Salzgitter - the mayor, council and administration - have been investing in the expansion and new construction of crèche and daycare places for years with enormous financial support from the state of Lower Saxony. Around 1,000 places have been created in the last 10 years. And more will follow. Here in Salzgitter-Thiede, a modern, friendly place has been created for all children, regardless of their origin, where they will feel at home. The city of Salzgitter is financing the new building with 3.2 million euros from the municipal budget. The new daycare center would not have been possible without the 50 % subsidy from the state with a further 3.2 million euros. I would particularly like to thank our former Lower Saxony Minister President Stephan Weil, with whom I negotiated the Lower Saxony Integration Fund in 2017 as President of the Lower Saxony Association of Cities and Towns to support municipalities particularly affected by the influx of new residents with their integration tasks. I wish the future daycare center operator, Caritasverband Salzgitter e.V., which successfully won a Europe-wide tender with a very good "Bewegung" concept, all the best and lots of happy children's eyes."
The building is also technically designed to be modern and climate-friendly. It has a PV system and a green roof. The premises are divided from the entrance area into the crèche and daycare areas. In the spacious entrance area, in the group rooms and also in the extensive outdoor facilities, there is plenty of space to implement the daycare center's focus on "movement".
