After getting to know each other through play, the children and young people were able to design their own masks at the children's and youth clubs in Hallendorf, Thiede and Lebenstedt (KJT Graffiti). Professional support was provided by theater educator Charlotte Werner. The children and young people were creative, even if the decision was not easy. What color should I choose, what shape should the mask have, what role do I want to play? The children tried things out, exchanged ideas and had to learn that paints also have to dry...
The children discovered their talents in a playful way. Together with others, it was great fun. When the colorful masks were finished, everyone was delighted and set about the next task with great enthusiasm: getting a play off the ground, coordinating with the others and, of course, rehearsing. Learning was not as difficult for the participants as it was at school.... They practiced a lot together and helped each other.
For many children, this project was their first contact with the theater. The excitement of presenting themselves on stage in front of others was great. The children showed a lot of courage and encouraged each other.
This went down just as well with the audience as it did with everyone involved.
The applause was a wonderful end to this project, from which the children took a lot home with them for their everyday lives.
The children's wish: a repeat of this project!
