Why does this offer make sense?
Medical studies suggest that high-risk patients in particular benefit from vaccination. The most important benefits include Reduction in the risk of severe disease progression from influenza and COVID-19. Reduction in complications, hospitalizations and mortality from these two diseases in the general population. Other health benefits: Research suggests that vaccination against respiratory diseases can reduce the risk of secondary diseases, including cardiovascular disease, by preventing infections or making them milder.
Risk groups and STIKO recommendations:
The Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) recommends the following risk groups in particular to be vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19:
- Older people: People aged 60 and over are particularly at risk of suffering severe courses of both flu and COVID-19 infection. The vaccinations offer effective protection.
- People with chronic illnesses: People with pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease or a weakened immune system should urgently get vaccinated.
- Pregnant women: Pregnant women have an increased risk of complications from flu or COVID-19 infection. Vaccination protects both the mother and the unborn child.
- Residents and employees of care facilities: This group is exposed to an increased risk of infection due to the close community and constant contact with many people. Vaccinations are particularly important here to prevent outbreaks.
- Healthcare staff: Medical staff and carers should be vaccinated to protect themselves and their patients.
