Salzgitter

Network control in the area of illegal gambling

In the evening of September 12, 2025, officers from the Salzgitter/Peine/Wolfenbüttel police station and the Braunschweig tax office for investigation and criminal matters carried out a joint check in the area of gambling together with the city of Salzgitter.

The aim of the inspection initiated by the Public Safety and Trade Department as part of the "Salzgitter - safe and clean 2.0" concept was to take action against illegal gambling and to ensure compliance with the applicable gambling law and the regulations for the protection of minors and players.

A total of five establishments were inspected. A total of 6 gaming machines were sealed in four properties and 13 administrative offense proceedings were initiated. The violations identified relate to the Gaming Ordinance and the State Treaty on Gambling.

Two gaming tables and one table machine were confiscated, as these can also be used for illegal gambling. Violations of building regulations were also identified, which will initially result in the owners concerned being heard.

In two cases, there is an initial suspicion of a criminal offense. Preparations are being made to initiate criminal proceedings.

The findings from this joint inspection once again reveal the necessity and effectiveness of such inspections. The inspection and the official cooperation between the police and the city of Salzgitter is considered a success overall.
