To prevent an infestation of rats in waste collection areas, properties and houses, there is an important general principle: "Without food in the form of food waste, no rats!"

The city of Salzgitter has now summarized what other preventive measures there are and what to do if you discover a rat infestation on an information page and in a flyer "Rat infestation - prevention and control". It also explains what you need to do if you see an increase in rats on your own property or as a tenant on your landlord's property, or if you suspect an increase in rats based on traces. However, active countermeasures, i.e. combating the infestation, should only be carried out by professionals.
