The daycare center has two daycare groups and an additional crèche group is being created. The daycare center is run by the DRK Braunschweig-Salzgitter.
The construction costs amount to around 6.2 million euros and are being funded by the "Salzgitterhilfe" structural aid program of the state of Lower Saxony with around 3.2 million euros. The municipal financing share amounts to around 3.0 million euros.
Tobias Böttcher from the Braunschweig Regional Development Office emphasized: "I am very pleased that we were able to fund this important project with around 3.2 million euros from the structural aid. This funding measure is part of our joint commitment to the socially equitable development of the city of Salzgitter. The state of Lower Saxony has provided the city with a total of 50 million euros in structural aid since 2019. And I think Salzgitter has made excellent use of the funds for social and urban development challenges and a future-oriented transformation."
Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel explains: "All good things come in threes, as the saying goes. And so it is today. Today we are inaugurating the Wiesenstraße daycare center, the third daycare center in three weeks. A real tour de force in terms of planning and implementation for my employees and those of the state of Lower Saxony. This daycare project would also not have been possible without the 51.2 percent funding from the state as part of the "Salzgitterhilfe" program. Here, too, my special thanks go to the former Minister President Stephan Weil and the then CDU parliamentary group chairman Dirk Toepffer, with whom I, as Lord Mayor, negotiated the "Salzgitterhilfe" with the support of Stephan Klein, Member of the State Parliament. The remaining approx. 3.0 million euros of the total costs will be paid from our municipal budget. For a long time now, daycare centers have no longer been purely places of care, but early education facilities that children and employees should enjoy attending. Our youngest children not only make their first friends with children of all nationalities in an uncomplicated way, but also learn knowledge, values and social behavior in a playful way from competent and empathetic teachers. This is where the foundations for the future of our children are laid in the truest sense of the word. In this respect, I am proud that we in Salzgitter - the mayor, council and administration - have been investing in the expansion and new construction of crèche and daycare places for years with enormous financial support from the state of Lower Saxony. Around 1,000 places have been created in the last 10 years. And more will follow. Here in Salzgitter-Bad, a modern, friendly place has been created for all children, regardless of their origin, where they will feel at home. Salzgitter has been on the move in terms of education for many years. Because we also have an enormous need for daycare places!"
The building was planned and constructed as a two-storey timber frame structure. The roof is extensively greened and PV modules generate electricity. A heat pump will also be used. The exterior of the building is characterized by a larch wood façade. A real showcase project in terms of climate protection and energy efficiency.
