"The idea is simple and effective: citizens can earn climate tokens in their everyday lives through their own climate-friendly behavior and exchange them for attractive services and products," says Michael Tacke, City Councillor for Building, Urban Planning, Transport and the Environment.
The city of Salzgitter is supported by the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association.
Ralf Sygusch, Association Director of the Greater Braunschweig Regional Association, sees opportunities for both the municipalities and the entire region in the regional license: "With this offer to the municipalities, we are providing them with a cost-effective opportunity to do something for their CO2 balance. And the more municipalities that take part, the greater the positive effect for the entire region. One more building block for achieving our regional climate targets."
In the greater Braunschweig area, small and large towns are taking part in this project. Nationwide, more than 40 municipalities belong to the Climate Taler network. The collected Climate Taler can also be redeemed in these cities.
In Salzgitter, Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH, Tourist-Information Salzgitter and Brillen Shop Johanna Denecke in Salzgitter-Bad are participating so far. The offers include free admission to the Stadtbad Lebenstedt and the Thermalsolbad Salzgitter-Bad, a glasses inspection including new nose pads and cleaning of the glasses or a sturdy paper bag in Salzgitter design.
Michael Tacke and the City of Salzgitter's climate protection management team look forward to welcoming more participants!
What is the Climate Thaler?
The Climate Taler is a simple and effective idea to motivate all participants to save CO2 through their own behavior.
All participants can collect Climate Taler in the app. Taler are collected when cycling, using electricity or water, which can be used to redeem rewards at all participating stores or institutions in all participating municipalities. The app recognizes the environmentally friendly routes covered and calculates the CO2 emissions saved compared to driving. For every five kilograms of CO2 saved by walking, cycling or using public transport measured in the app, a Climate Thaler is awarded.
A tangible reward! Participants can also see their own consumption and savings.
Important: Anyone who downloads the free app does not need to enter any data. Travel distances and all other climate-relevant information are collected anonymously and only evaluated quantitatively. The app is GDPR-compliant.
The city of Salzgitter is happy to welcome further participants and supporters: retailers, restaurateurs, entrepreneurs, cultural businesses, associations, etc. are welcome to contact the climate protection management of the city of Salzgitterklimaschutzstadt.salzgitterde.
