The popular "Light the Night" festival of lights invites visitors to marvel, discover and experience on Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm and on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
This year, visitors can be whisked away to the illuminated realm of the dinosaurs and look forward to many prehistoric highlights.
Exciting dinosaur discovery program starting on Monday
The dinosaur adventure for the youngest prehistoric fans begins on Monday, October 20: every day up to and including Thursday, a dinosaur egg with little surprises will be hidden in a shop window in the pedestrian zone in the city center. Whoever discovers it first gets to take it home with them. It's worth being quick!
The program for the weekend
From Friday evening, the city center will be transformed into a spectacularly illuminated dinosaur landscape: more than 20 impressive dinosaur models will shine in colored light, a volcano will bubble and there will even be a meteorite that has been smashed into the ground. Various catering stands provide for the physical well-being: In addition to hot and cold drinks, delicious food such as fish sandwiches, chips, lángos, waffles, crêpes and, of course, dino nuggets are on offer.
Right at the start, the youngest visitors can look forward to a special promotion: all children who visit the event on Friday between 17:00 and 19:00 with a dinosaur lantern can pick up a small thank-you gift at Monumentenplatz in recognition of their great support for the Festival of Lights.
Another highlight awaits visitors at 19:30. An impressive fire show by Fire and Flow will be presented on the Platz der Städtepartnerschaften.
On Saturday evening between 21:00 and 22:00 it will be a little quieter. During the "quiet hour", the volume will be reduced to allow visitors who are sensitive to noise to enjoy a pleasant experience.
Finale on Sunday when the shops are open
On Sunday, October 26, 2025, "Light the Night" ends with an open Sunday. The participating stores will be open from 13:00 to 18:00. There will also be a colorful family afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., during which the Dino Light World can be admired in all its glory one last time.
Prehistoric times up close - exhibition & guided tours until November
After the event weekend, the dinosaurs will remain until November 9, 2025 and can be admired by interested visitors in daylight.
On the Halloween weekend, the city management of Wirtschafts- und Innovationsförderung Salzgitter GmbH (WIS) will also be offering free guided tours with dinosaur experts:
- Saturday, 1.11.2025: 2:00 pm & 4:00 pm
- Sunday, 2.11.2025: 2:00 p.m.

Join in & solve the puzzle - interactive scavenger hunt
If you want to test your dinosaur knowledge, you can take part in the interactive dinosaur scavenger hunt. There is an overview map with a QR code at the Platz der Städtepartnerschaften. Once scanned, an exciting journey of discovery through the prehistoric world begins with tricky questions, tasks and exciting facts.
The temporary dinosaur exhibition at the Münchehagen Dinosaur Park is being realized as part of the federal funding programme "Sustainable inner cities and centers".
The "Light the Night" festival of lights is being financed by WIS for the first time this year. bene lux GmbH has been commissioned to organize and implement the event in close cooperation with WIS.
