Prevention continuation on the topic of racism

Following the successful prevention premiere, around 130 pupils from two schools (with seven classes) in Salzgitter took part in the follow-up project: at the invitation of the City of Salzgitter's Children, Youth and Family Department, they watched the movie "Elbow".

Following the successful prevention premiere, around 130 pupils from two schools (with seven classes) in Salzgitter once again took part in the follow-up project: at the invitation of the children, youth and family department of the city of Salzgitter, they watched the movie "Ellbogen" and discussed prejudice, discrimination and racism.

Prejudice, discrimination and racism were discussed.

The youth and democracy education team invited the schools providing further education and their pupils aged 16 and over to talk about their experiences and opinions on identity, prejudice, discrimination and racism.

Gymnasium am Fredenberg and Ludwig-Erhard-Schule agreed to take part. Together with their teachers and school social workers, the pupils experienced a special movie screening.

About the movie: The film adaptation of Fatma Aydemir's novel of the same name tells the story of Hazal, the daughter of Turkish parents, finding herself in Berlin and Istanbul. The film shows the challenges that young people face in dealing with their origins, their self-image and social prejudices. The film promotes an understanding of the effects of racism and discrimination and encourages people to question their own attitudes

Over the following four days, workshops were held at the participating schools to reflect on and classify the content of the film. The pupils discussed exclusion and prejudice and exchanged views on discrimination, violence and xenophobia.

For project manager Alexanda Leszczynski from the Youth and Democracy Education team, the film and workshops were a successful prevention event for everyone involved "The pupils were just as positive as the teachers. They thought it was good that we offered something for the older pupils."

The pupils were pleased to be able to deal with this topical issue in this way.

Information:

After the prevention premiere in December 2024 on the topic of addiction, there was just as much interest in the topic of racism.
