The construction of a 1.5-kilometer cycle path on the north side of the L636 state road (road from Salder to the Nord-Süd-Straße junction) will begin on Wednesday. The cycle path will start at the Hopfenhof road in Salder and continue to the junction with the K12 district road (Nord-Süd-Straße) at the Diebesstieg landfill site.
The construction of the cycle path will result in traffic restrictions. The L636 will be closed from the K12 in the direction of Salder. The detour will be via the K12 to the Hillenholz junction on the K40 (Watenstedter Weg) to Salder.
The opposite direction - i.e. out of Salder - will remain open to traffic. The construction work should be completed by the end of the year. Weather-related delays cannot be ruled out.
The construction costs of the cycle path amount to around 850,000 euros and will be shared between the state of Lower Saxony and the city of Salzgitter. The city will bear slightly more than half of the construction costs in order to finance the widening from the standard width of 2.50 meters to 3 meters.
All parties involved ask for your understanding for the restrictions in traffic flow.
