For decades, the MAN site in Salzgitter has stood for production at the highest level and is an extremely important and large employer for Salzgitter and the Braunschweig region.
Even from the history of the former Büssing-Werke, long with the Büssing lion in the company logo, the high-quality work at the Salzgitter site clearly stands for the economic success of the company. For many families from Salzgitter and the surrounding communities, the future depends on the preservation of jobs at MAN Truck & Bus SE in Salzgitter.
The company's current plans give rise to fears for the Salzgitter site. The Salzgitter City Council and Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel are calling on MAN, the TRATON Group and the Volkswagen Group to abandon this "target image" and strengthen the MAN site in Salzgitter.
The city parliament has also approved the date for the mayoral election in 2026, which has been set for September 13, 2026. A possible run-off election is planned for September 27, 2026. In addition, the municipal election management was appointed for the preparation and implementation of the 2026 Kommunalwahl and for the municipal election management in the council period from November 1, 2026.
The committee also decided to extend the contract for the City of Salzgitter's youth and education camp on Neuwerk Island and to expand Ringelheim elementary school and enable it to operate as an all-day school.
The council was informed about the implementation status of the "Salzgitter - safe and clean 2.0" project. The newly established telephone numbers 839-3030 (for the "safe" area) and 839-7070 (for the "clean" area) can be used to report issues relating to the "Salzgitter - safe & clean 2.0" project. It is also possible to submit reports via the new e-mail addresses sicherstadt.salzgitterde and sauberstadt.salzgitterde, which were set up in parallel. Furthermore, two sub-items ("Salzgitter - safe 2.0" and "Salzgitter - clean 2.0") have been added to the city's reporting app in the menu since June 1, 2025.
