"After inaugurating three new daycare centers in the last few weeks, I am very impressed that the four-form entry elementary school North is now also being opened this summer - after a remarkably short construction period. The challenges in Salzgitter are unique, but what is also unique is how much commitment and energy we have shown in mastering these challenges! I would like to thank everyone who has supported us in this Herculean task."
It is not only the school itself that is remarkable, but also the short construction time. The ground-breaking ceremony was in January 2024 and the fact that the school will start with four classes in August this year is a brilliant achievement. And it was long awaited, given the turbulent years behind this school location.
"Interim solutions such as accommodation in containers and a temporary school location in Gebhardshagen have demanded a lot from teachers, children and parents. The rising number of pupils since 2015 has presented us with enormous challenges and has meant that schools that were considered obsolete years ago are bursting at the seams. A new school was needed in Lebenstedt in particular. The state helped us with the financing. Almost 50 percent of the total construction costs of 12.5 million euros were financed by the integration fund.
The remaining 6.4 million euros came from the municipal budget. Financing was one challenge, planning and realization of the elementary school was another. We can be proud of how we have mastered this: with a school that is a sight to behold! Modern, well-equipped classrooms, specialist rooms, music rooms, a bright canteen and play equipment in the schoolyard that is simply fun."
