The district of Goslar has been running the Tele-Emergency Medicine (TNM) trial project since January 2021 and has gained a lot of positive experience since then. The aim of this project is to support the ground-based emergency medical service and improve patient care. The positive experience to date has also convinced the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior, which is currently preparing a state-wide introduction. But Salzgitter does not want to wait that long. Mayor Frank Klingebiel has initiated a corresponding proposal, which is to be discussed today in the fire department committee and decided on March 11 in the administrative committee. "By participating in the Goslar district's emergency telemedicine project, we already have the opportunity to improve the emergency medical services for our citizens. An opportunity that we should definitely seize!" says Klingebiel.
The Ministry of the Interior has given the green light for the continuation of the project, which has already been joined by a number of cities and districts in Lower Saxony, until the uniform introduction of emergency telemedicine throughout the state.
The costs for the introduction and operation of tele-emergency medicine will be borne in full by the payers of the rescue service, the health insurance companies.
"The advantage is that the technology now being introduced will continue to be usable even after the state-wide introduction, as it is primarily an extension of the existing technology," emphasizes First City Councillor Eric Neiseke, Head of the Fire Department.
What will the use of tele-emergency medicine make possible in future?
- By using cell phones with image, sound and data transmission, the emergency services on site will be able to call in medical personnel very quickly
- The targeted deployment of tele-emergency doctors means that more emergencies can be treated at the same time.
- The tried and tested emergency doctor system with on-site treatment remains in place, but is strengthened by the use of tele-emergency medicine.
- Long-term intensive care transfers of emergency patients can also be carried out more effectively thanks to the effective use of tele-emergency physician skills.
