The city of Salzgitter has been using the BIWAPP information and warning app since 2022 to inform citizens quickly and reliably. In addition to important warning messages - as offered by other warning apps - users also receive additional information, for example about roadworks, school closures or disruptions to local public transport.

The company behind BIWAPP has now released an update to version 4. This is now available to download from the app stores.

Important: After the update, all users must manually select their subscribed locations again, as these are not automatically transferred from the old version.

The app still offers location-based notifications. A new feature in version 4 is the separate display of warning areas and operational areas. This is relevant, for example, in the event of major incidents: it can happen that a warning is issued in an area even though the incident is not directly taking place there. For example, in the event of heavy smoke development, a request may be made to keep the windows closed in a certain area - even if the fire itself is outside.
