Will be postponed!VHS online lecture: Between tariffs and the turn of an era

The Volkshochschule (VHS) of the city of Salzgitter has postponed the online lecture "Zwischen Zöllen und Zeitenwende" on July 28 to January 29, 2026 at 7.30 pm. Interested parties can register on the website www.vhs-salzgitter.de.

The lecture:

The times of ever faster globalization seem to be over for the time being. Protectionism, tariffs, sanctions and industrial policy are making a comeback. At the same time, the war in Ukraine threatens the European security order and makes new investments in security indispensable.

The speaker:

Moritz Schularick has been President of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy since June 2023 and Professor of Economics at Sciences Po University (Paris).

His research interests include financial markets and asset prices, questions of monetary macroeconomics and the causes of financial crises and economic inequality.

He regularly advises central banks, finance ministries, investors and international organizations.

Prior to his appointment in Kiel, Moritz Schularick was Professor of Macroeconomics at the University of Bonn and Director of the MacroFinance Lab there. He is also a member of the DFG Excellence Cluster ECONtribute and a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Academia Europea. In the course of his academic career, he has conducted research at New York University, the University of Cambridge, the Free University of Berlin and in the research department of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, among others.
