As part of the federal funding program "Sustainable inner cities and centers", the city of Salzgitter and the Salzgitter Economic and Innovation Promotion Agency want to make the weekly markets in the inner city areas fit for the future. For this reason, the consultancy firm CIMA Beratung + Management GmbH from Hanover was commissioned to draw up two concepts for the strategic further development of the weekly markets in Salzgitter-Bad (Marktplatz) and Salzgitter-Lebenstedt (Chemnitzer Straße). The concepts are intended to help strengthen the weekly markets as places of supply, experience and identity in the long term and firmly anchor them in the urban space.
Inspections:
To kick off the project, inspections of the two weekly markets will take place on Friday, August 22, 2025, in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt and on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Salzgitter-Bad. CIMA will be examining the marketplaces and invites all interested parties to accompany the inspection and provide information on the respective market. The tours will start at 9 am and end at around 11 am. The meeting point in Lebenstedt is the DORMERO Hotel and in Salzgitter-Bad the small town hall. A list of criteria will be used to examine strengths, weaknesses and development potential in terms of offer, accessibility, ambience, order and location. Registration is not required.
Surveys:
In addition, from August 18 to September 25, 2025, market visitors, traders, local businesses and potential customers will be surveyed on site and online about the markets and their potential. Flyers with QR codes and printed copies of the questionnaires will be available at market stalls and in the city libraries. Interested parties can also take part in the survey here .
Workshops:
Subsequently, recommendations for profiling and marketing (mid-September 2025) and a catalog of measures for implementation (early October 2025) will be developed in two workshops.
By the end of November 2025, two comprehensive concepts with recommendations for action, time and cost frameworks and approaches for evaluation will be developed.
