Christian Striese, Deputy Mayor of the City of Salzgitter, welcomed the guests on behalf of Mayor Frank Klingebiel, the City Council, and the city administration. He expressed his delight at the interest shown by the professionals who are taking on educational challenges and pursuing continuing education to enhance their daily work. In his engaging and informative keynote address, psychologist Benjamin Hilge set the stage for the topic of successful pedagogy. In his solution-oriented presentation, he combined theory and practice, highlighted current challenges in daycare centers, and provided professionals with concrete strategies for action.
These practical solutions were also the focus of the six interactive and hands-on workshops centered on the topics of “Interaction,” “Communication,” and “Microtransitions in Everyday Educational Practice.” Participants took away many ideas for their work and personal development and had the opportunity to exchange ideas.
The organizing team received a great deal of positive feedback from participants through feedback forms and conversations: “The participants highlighted the speakers’ expertise as well as the methodical and engaging design of the workshops and the insights that the early childhood educators will take back to their daily work,” concluded the city’s early childhood education advisory services.
Additional information about the symposium:
During regular discussions between early childhood educators and the city’s daycare advisory services, the idea arose to hold a professional development day to explore new approaches for daily work and to exchange ideas.
The city’s early childhood education consultants and the specialist and coordination offices within the City of Salzgitter’s Department of Children, Youth, and Family organized the professional development day in collaboration with the “Lower Saxony Institute for Early Childhood Education and Development” (nifbe) and the Catholic Family Education Center.
Following a one-hour keynote presentation titled “With Attitude and Heart for Successful Pedagogy,” various workshops were offered that participants could attend in the morning and afternoon.
- “Communication and Self-Protection in Challenging Situations,”
- “Attitude as a Dynamic Process—How (Self-)Reflection Can Influence Our Actions,”
- “Communication and Body Language,”
- “Micro-Transitions in the Daily Routine—Both Stolperstein and Opportunity,”
- “Small Moments—Big Impact: Consciously Shaping Interactions with Children,”
- “Do You Want to Be My Friend?—On Pedagogical Closeness and the Quality of Interaction with Daycare Children Who Feel Lonely”
This successful premiere marks the start of further events.
The next symposium, on the topic “Child Sexuality and Child Protection,” is already scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the town hall in Lebenstedt (Joachim-Campe-Straße 6–8).
