The event was hosted by the Youth and Democracy Education Team of the Children and Youth Development Department of the Children, Youth and Family Service, Bäder, Sport und Freizeit GmbH and other project managers.
In the workshop, Lennart Eickhoff from the Landskate planning office presented three concepts with different design elements.
Those present opted for the so-called "street flow variant": a combination of street-style obstacles (obstacles that can be ridden on, which are based on park benches, kerbs and other elements of urban development) and elements such as quarter pipes (rounded ramps that can be used both upwards and downwards). The aim is to offer future users a choice of different riding styles in the skate park.
The skaters, BMX riders and wheelchair users also discussed with the designer what types of obstacles the skate park should contain, where these should be placed and also which of these should be adapted to the needs of wheelchair motocross.
As far as the appearance of the facility is concerned, the participants were in favor of using colored concrete to pick up on the tennis court theme so that the facility blends in better with its surroundings.
Very importantly, the new skate park will use what is known as "in-situ concrete" so that users can ride on a closed surface without any unevenness.
What happens next?
The planning office took the young people's ideas and suggestions for consideration.
In coordination with the municipal project participants (Youth and Democracy Education Team of the Children and Youth Development Department of the Children, Youth and Family Service; Bäder Sport- und Freizeit GmbH, Eigenbetrieb Gebäudemanagement der Stadt Salzgitter), there will be a second participation workshop in April to which all interested parties are invited.
The first planning draft will be presented there for participants to discuss. Further ideas can be submitted then or already now at: jugendunddemokratiebildungstadt.salzgitterde

Information about the skatepark project:
The Salzgittersee City Council has decided to build a skate park in conjunction with the renovation of existing tennis facilities as a measure for the further development of the Salzgittersee.
There are currently six tennis courts on the site to the east of the ice rink, each arranged as doubles courts and a smaller "single court".
The plan is to demolish the two courts to the north, two courts to the south and the single court in order to install the 1,800 square meter skate park on this site.
