Mobile Emergency Responders in Salzgitter: Rapid Assistance in Medical Emergencies

Volunteer mobile responders are now part of the emergency response chain in Salzgitter. The system uses smartphones to locate and notify registered first responders in the vicinity of an emergency to ensure faster first aid in the event of an emergency.

Today, Wednesday, July 29, the “Mobile Rescuers” system—which is already in use in over 40 regions in Germany—is launching. The goal of the Mobile Rescuers is to supplement emergency medical services with medically trained personnel who are located near an emergency. From now on, when the integrated control center of the Salzgitter Professional Fire Department receives an emergency call reporting a cardiac arrest, volunteer, qualified first responders will be alerted via an app and, due to their proximity to the scene, will be able to provide first aid until emergency medical services arrive.

Since early July, approximately 30 registered Mobile Rescuers have been integrated into the system during a trial phase. Another 40 or so volunteers will soon complete the necessary training to be registered as Mobile Rescuers. Overall, the pilot phase was very successful.

The basis for launching the Mobile Retter e.V. initiative was a resolution passed by the Salzgitter City Council in 2023. Extensive preparations and training for the first Mobile Rescuers were necessary before the system’s official launch.

Volunteers Wanted

The Mobile Retter system relies on the people who participate. The more people who participate, the faster help will arrive on the scene in an emergency. The Salzgitter Professional Fire Department is looking for volunteer rescuers with medical training. These include, for example, healthcare professionals and doctors.

Anyone who has questions about Mobile Retter or is unsure whether their qualifications are sufficient to participate can contact the Salzgitter Professional Fire Department (email: ersthelferstadt.salzgitterde).
