Due to the wintry weather conditions, the collection of residual waste garbage cans could not be carried out as planned on Monday, January 26, 2026 in some parts of the city. Slippery and unsafe roads made emptying impossible in some cases for safety reasons. The measure was taken to protect employees and all road users.
The affected waste garbage cans must be returned to the property and made available for the next regular emptying date. There will be no subsequent special emptying.
If the capacity of the residual waste garbage can is not sufficient by the next date, orange residual waste bags can be purchased at Lebenstedt Town Hall and Bad, at the Salzgitter municipal waste management company and at the Südstern pharmacy in Lebenstedt. These will also be taken away with the next regular collection.
As an exception, transparent bags can also be used for packaging waste from the yellow garbage can, which will also be taken away. These are transparent plastic bags in which only lightweight packaging (e.g. plastic, metal and composite packaging) is collected. They are accepted by the waste collection service as the contents are clearly visible from the outside. Transparent bags are available from retailers and DIY stores.
In addition, from 26.01. up to and including 07.02.2026, residual waste can exceptionally be handed in in bags during regular opening hours for a fee at Entsorgungszentrum Salzgitter GmbH, Diebesstieg 50, 38229 Salzgitter.
Notes on the waste fee
In principle, 12 compulsory empties per calendar year are charged for each residual waste container, irrespective of additional empties. It does not matter in which month the emptying takes place.
As the emptying on 26.01.2026 was canceled due to weather conditions, this emptying will not be charged. Instead, the missed collection can be made up for in another calendar month. This will not result in any additional costs for the households affected.
