Salzgitter

25 Years of “Gentle Voices”

With plenty of music, movies, karaoke, and a celebration attended by about 250 guests, “Gentle Voices,” the choir of the Salzgitter Municipal Music School, celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Sabine Petter, director of the municipal music school (left), congratulated Britta Rex, choir director of "Gentle Voices," on the choir's 25th anniversary.

City Councilman Michael Tacke congratulated Britta Rex and the approximately 40 members on behalf of Mayor Frank Klingebiel, the Salzgitter City Council, and the city administration. He praised the mixed choir, noting its groove and stage presence, its colorful and varied repertoire spanning pop, jazz, gospel, and world music, as well as its musical quality and the joy of singing together. For 25 years, the choir has been delighting people both in and outside of Salzgitter. Whether at the Old Town Festival, the Lake Festival, the Klezmer Festival, or the Culture Nights in Braunschweig or Wolfenbüttel: the choir is popular and captivates audiences with its diversity. The city councilor emphasized that “Gentle Voices” has enriched the cultural scene for 25 years and has been very successful as a choir.

Michael Tacke paid tribute to director Britta Rex, who founded the choir in 2001 and is also celebrating her 25th anniversary of service with the City of Salzgitter this year. The vocal teacher and choir director has built a choir known far beyond the region. He cited as examples a 2022 feature on Deutschlandradio Kultur highlighting “Gentle Voices” as “Choir of the Week” and the 2023 concert with the Hanover big band “Clean, Fine & Funky” to mark the music school’s 65th anniversary. On behalf of the City of Salzgitter, Michael Tacke thanked “Gentle Voices” for their impressive musical dedication and wished them continued success and a wonderful celebration.

Sabine Petter, director of the music school within the Cultural Services Department, highlighted the special blend of warmth and passion that defines the choir. She credited Britta Rex with great empathy, passion, energy, and creativity. “We are incredibly proud to have you here at the music school as a vocal instructor and choir director,” said Sabine Petter.

Britta Rex herself looked back with great satisfaction on the many projects throughout the choir’s 25-year history. She expressed her delight at the warm reception and enthusiasm of the audience. And she looks forward to many more years of music and the joy of singing together in Salzgitter and elsewhere.
