Around 10,000 young people will then be called upon to elect 25 parliamentarians and three assessors to the Youth Parliament on Friday, April 10, 2026. Young people aged between 12 and 20 can stand for election and cast their vote.
But first of all, young people have to register as candidates and put themselves forward by Monday, March 2.

Who can stand as a candidate?
All candidates must have had their main residence in Salzgitter for at least one month on election day (i.e. from March 10).
Young people from the age of 14 up to and including the age of 20 can stand as youth parliamentarians.
Anyone between the ages of 12 and 13 can apply to be an assessor. There are 3 places available for assessors, who have the same right to vote, speak and propose motions as the youth parliamentarians.
The youth parliament meets several times a year (approx. eight to eleven times). The young people have the opportunity to discuss their own ideas for Salzgitter or to find a common position on proposals from the city council. Ideas and demands from children and young people who are not members of the youth parliament are also discussed. If the members of the youth parliament think an idea is good or an issue is important, they either turn it into a project of their own or try to get the city administration or the city council to do something about the idea. The members meet in small groups to consider, discuss and implement such projects. All children and young people from Salzgitter who are not members of the youth parliament but are interested in the topic can also take part in these meetings.
Anyone who has questions about the application or the work of the Youth Parliament can also contact the Children, Youth and Family Department on 05341 / 839-3803 and 05341 / 839-3991 or by email at jugendparlamentstadt.salzgitterde.
