On Tuesday, March 2, at the invitation of Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel, a citizens' meeting was held on the question of the further use of the sports field area in Groß Mahner. Councillor Michael Tacke moderated the event and presented the administration's proposal. According to the proposal, a building area with up to twelve single-family and terraced house plots was to be developed on the site of the sports field. The citizens' meeting was intended to show whether this proposal is also in the interests of the residents of Groß Mahner. Around 90 residents accepted the invitation and took a clear position. A large majority of those present voted in favor of retaining the sports field area with an optional natural development.

Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel explains: "The vote of the local community is particularly important to me as Lord Mayor and my city councillor Michael Tacke in this matter, which we also expressed very clearly in the run-up to the citizens' assembly. The wish from the citizens' meeting to preserve the sports field area is opposed to the development of a new building area with up to twelve detached and terraced house plots. I am therefore withdrawing my draft resolution "3733/18 Bebauungsplan GrM 6" on the development of a building area on the sports field site. I look forward to further activities for the use of the sports field site and wish the local community in Groß-Mahner every success."
